From Me to You

A Word of Inspiration

I was having a conversation with a close friend of mine a couple weeks ago. I was telling her about how I had visited my local Asian Supermarket and was amazed at the selection. Her words to me were, "I am scared to go into one of those stores by myself because I wouldn't know what any of the food was."

Those words stuck with me over the next week. I started thinking back to conversations I've had with other friends in the past and realized she hadn't been the only one to make a comment like that. That's kind of where I got the inspiration for this blog.

Everybody has to eat. And in my opinion, everybody LIKES to eat! Flavors, textures, and cooking overall have come very naturally to me. I got "bit by the cooking bug" in my early 20's and have grown in the kitchen ever since. However, I know that is not the case for a lot of people. I've had some people tell me, "Oh, I don't cook because I'm scared to mess it up." or "I'm not a real chef, I don't know the right way to make that meal." If I've learned one thing about cooking, it is that COOKING IS NOT PERFECT! There is no ONE WAY to cook any given dish. Yes, recipes and measurements are important, but you still have to have FUN!

Don't be afraid to get creative in the kitchen. How else will you learn? I can't tell you how many meals I have completely DESTROYED. Was I upset? You bet I was. Did I give up on some of those nights and resort to a microwave or frozen dinner? You bet I did. But, what is a better way to learn, than to learn from your mistakes?

Try and try again and you will succeed.

Check out my blog and I hope you find some useful tips and enjoy my recipes!
